My Google Business Profile was suspended — how do I get it back?

Last updated November 3, 2026

One morning your business is on Google Maps, taking calls. The next, it is gone — and the notice in its place just says "suspended." For most local businesses that profile is the front door: it is how nearby customers find you, call you, and choose you over the shop down the street. So the panic is understandable. But panic is exactly what makes suspensions worse, because the two moves owners make first — starting over and appealing over and over — are the two moves Google warns against. There is a calmer path back, and it starts with understanding what Google is actually checking.

First: what not to do

Do not create a new profile for the same business. Google says this plainly. A duplicate does not replace the problem — it becomes a second problem, and duplicates are one of the things that get profiles flagged in the first place.

Do not fire off repeat appeals. One clean appeal, made after the real problem is fixed, beats five rushed ones. Multiple appeals for the same issue slow your case down instead of speeding it up.

And know which word you are looking at. A suspended profile means Google believes a guideline was broken and has pulled the profile while it checks. A disabled profile is the heavier word: Google doubts the business qualifies, or that it really operates at that address. Both go through the same door — proof and one proper appeal — but disabled cases need the stronger evidence.

Find the breach before you appeal

Google rarely names the exact rule, but the usual causes repeat:

Fix the breach first. Appealing while the violation is still sitting in the profile is asking Google to say no.

The appeal, done right

Sign in with the account that manages the profile and open Google's Business Profile appeals tool. Select the profile, read the reason Google shows, and submit the appeal — once. Then the evidence: Google will ask for proof such as your business registration, business license, tax certificate, or a utility bill, showing your business name and address exactly as they appear on the profile. Have those files ready before you open the evidence form, because once it is opened it must be submitted within 60 minutes or it will not attach to your appeal. Decisions can take up to about five business days. If the appeal is denied, you can request an additional review with new evidence. No one can promise you the outcome — Google decides, and anyone who guarantees reinstatement is guaranteeing something that is not theirs to give. What you control is a clean profile and one complete, well-proved appeal.

What it costs here

Not sure where your profile actually stands — or whether the problem is the profile, the website behind it, or both? That is what the Website Check-Up is for: it finds exactly where your Google presence stands and what is fixable, in writing.
