How do I set up a professional email on my own domain?
Look at the two addresses side by side: yourbusiness2024@gmail.com, and info@yourbusiness.com. One reads like a hobby. The other reads like a company a customer can trust with their money — and customers make that judgment in the second before they decide whether to open your message at all. The good news is that the second address is not expensive or complicated. It is three pieces fitted together, about an hour of setup, and one rule about control that matters more than all the technical steps combined.
The three pieces
- Your domain. The address lives on your domain name, so the domain has to be yours first. Everything else is built on top of it.
- An email host. A service that runs your mailboxes and actually sends and receives the mail — the engine room behind the address.
- DNS records. These are the wiring, added where your domain is managed. MX records route incoming mail to your host. SPF, DKIM, and DMARC are the proof records: they tell receiving inboxes, cryptographically, that mail from your domain really comes from you.
Do not skip the proof records. Without them, your invoices and replies look like forgeries to Gmail and Outlook, and they land in spam — which means the "cheap, quick" setup quietly costs you customers who never saw your answer. Setup itself takes about 30 to 60 minutes; DNS changes can then take a few hours to spread across the internet before everything behaves.
Two things owners are usually glad to learn: you can have professional email on your domain with no website at all — the domain alone is enough — and the names that read as a real business are the simple ones: info@ for general contact, your name@ for you personally, support@ for customer care.
The one rule that matters most
Whoever controls the domain account controls the email. Every mailbox, every password reset, every future change runs through that one account. So your domain and your email must live in your account, in your name — never in a designer's, an employee's, or a helpful cousin's. Businesses have lost their email, their website, and their customer list in one afternoon because the domain sat in somebody else's login. The setup is an hour. Getting your domain back from the wrong account can take months, and sometimes it never happens.
What it costs here
This is printed work in our studio, like everything we publish:
- Domain Name Handled — $200. We handle your domain name for you — secured and registered in your name, under your control.
- Domain Connection — $100. Your domain connected to your website, set up on your account.
And our working rule, stated plainly: when we build your site, your accounts — domain and email included — are set up in your name, and everything is handed over to you. Your business stays reachable by your customers and controlled by you, which is the entire point of having the address in the first place.
