How do I get more visitors to my website?

Last updated November 3, 2026

Your website is live. It looks the way you wanted. And the visitor count is a flat line — a few visits a day, most of them you. This is the moment owners discover the hardest truth of having a website: building it was the beginning, not the end. Nobody finds a website by accident. Every visitor your site will ever get arrives through one of a short list of doors, and "more traffic" means opening the doors that are currently shut.

Where visitors actually come from

Google search. Somebody types what you sell, and Google either shows you or shows your competitor. This door is opened by SEO: pages written in the words customers search, a site Google can read properly, a business Google trusts enough to rank. For most small businesses this becomes the biggest door — and the slowest to open, because rankings are earned over months.

Google Maps and your Business Profile. For anything local, the map results are often seen before any website. A complete Google Business Profile — right category, right hours, real photos, reviews growing — puts you in front of nearby customers at the exact moment they are ready to buy.

Social media and everywhere you're listed. Your profiles, your directory listings, the places your business is mentioned — each one is a path back to your site. A business listed consistently in many places simply has more doors than a business listed in one.

People coming back. Past customers, people who almost bought, people who saved your name. They return when there is something to return to — a new answer, a new offer, a reason.

The half of the problem nobody mentions

Traffic is only the first half. A hundred visitors landing on a page that loads slowly, talks around what they searched for, and hides how to contact you produces exactly zero customers — just a bigger, more discouraging flat line. So what do more visitors actually get you, if the page they land on cannot turn them into a call, a text or a sale? Nothing. That is why the fix usually starts not with promotion but with an honest look at what you already have: is the site findable, is it answering the questions customers actually ask, and does it make the next step obvious? Promotion poured on top of a site that leaks visitors is the most expensive traffic there is.
