How do I add an online store to my website?
Your website shows your work, tells your story, and sends customers somewhere else to buy — usually a marketplace that takes its cut and owns the relationship. Adding a store to the site you already have is the obvious fix, and owners ask how to do it everywhere. The good news: you almost never need a new website. There are three well-worn paths, and the right one depends on what your site is built on and how much you sell.
Path one: your platform already has a store in it
Most website builders — Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy, and their kind — carry commerce built in, waiting to be switched on. You add products, connect payments, set shipping, and the store lives inside your existing site at your existing address. For most small catalogs, this is the fastest honest route: no migration, no new system to learn from zero.
Path two: a store plugin
If your site runs on WordPress, the standard answer is WooCommerce — a plugin that turns your site into a store with product pages, a cart, checkout, coupons, and shipping rules. It is powerful and it is yours, with one trade-off: plugins need maintaining, and a neglected store plugin is a genuine security risk. This path suits a business ready to sell seriously and keep its site cared for.
Path three: buy buttons and checkout links
If your catalog is small — a handful of products, a service with a deposit — you may not need a store at all. Embedded buy buttons and secure checkout links (from a payment provider like Stripe) can sit on the pages you already have: the product, the price, a button, a safe payment page. It is the lightest build and, for many service businesses, all the store they will ever need.
Prepare these before anyone builds
Whichever path you take, the store runs on homework: your product list with real photos and honest descriptions, your prices, how payments reach your bank, and your shipping and tax rules decided in advance. Stores stall on missing decisions far more often than on technology.
What it costs here
Our prices are printed, like every price we publish:
- Premium website — from $1,200. Up to 8 pages with an online store included, built as one piece.
- Work on the website you already have — from $600. Up to 5 pages: if your platform can carry a store, we build it on the site you own now. (A larger store or custom work is scoped after a Website Check-Up, so the quote is exact rather than guessed.)
