How do I sell online without Etsy fees?
Etsy sends you a sale, then shows you what the sale cost. A listing fee here, a percentage there, another percentage for the payment, and sometimes an advertising percentage you never chose. None of the fees is shocking on its own. Stacked on every order, they become the rent you pay for selling in someone else's marketplace.
Add up what Etsy actually takes
For each sale, Etsy charges a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee, and payment processing of about 3%. If the sale came through Etsy's Offsite Ads, add another 12% to 15% — and once a shop passes $10,000 a year in sales, that advertising fee is mandatory, not a choice. On a $100 sale, the first three charges alone come to $9.70, before any advertising percentage.
The deeper cost is quieter: the customer belongs to Etsy. Etsy holds the relationship, sets the rules, and can change the fees or the visibility of your shop. You cannot build your own customer list from buyers the platform keeps as its own.
What changes in a store of your own
On your own website, there is no listing fee, no marketplace transaction percentage, and no mandatory advertising cut. You still pay payment processing — taking cards costs money everywhere — but that is the only percentage between you and the sale. Your prices, policies, and presentation are yours. Best of all, the customer is yours: their details stay with your business, so the second sale does not have to be bought from a platform again.
The honest trade
Etsy brings its own crowd of buyers, and that is worth real money — especially at the beginning. Your own store does not arrive with shoppers inside it. You bring them: from Google, from your social pages, from past customers, from every package and post that points home.
That is why many sellers run both. Etsy stays as the discovery shelf, where new customers find the products. The website becomes the home, where repeat customers buy without the marketplace stack, and where the business would survive if the marketplace changed its rules tomorrow.
What it looks like when your store is home
A customer finds a product, lands on a shop that carries your name and your story, buys through your checkout, and joins your customer list. The next launch, restock, or gift set reaches them directly — no listing fee to be found again, no percentage for the introduction you no longer need.
How we fix it
Our Premium websites start from $1,200, including a website with a store: your products, your checkout, your customer list, on your own domain. Website work is 50% to start, and the balance is due only when your finished site is ready and approved by you, before it goes live.
